The 10-year-old Cub Scout from Gidgegannup was invited to close the Hoopers Park memorial service.

His mother, Melody Semmler, said her son's love of brass began at the age of six when he started learning the cornet.

"It's quite unusual to start playing so young," Ms Semmler said.

"Jordan loves the big band sound and a few years ago I took him to see James Morrison."

The Gidgegannup lad was lucky enough to meet the Australian jazz musician backstage after the performance.

Ms Semmler said music ran in the family.

"With a name like Melody, you'd expect me to play an instrument or two," she said.

"Jordan learnt the piano for a few years before showing an interest in the trumpet; you can really see his passion for the sound when he plays," she said.
