Batter’s up: junior baseballers off to US for Cal Ripken World Series

JUNIOR baseballers Maddux Stivey and Tyson Noel will travel to the United States this month to represent Australia in the Under-13s 2016 Cal Ripken World Series.

It is the second time the 12 year olds have represented Australia at the competition, which invites champion baseball teams from across the world.

Maddux from High Wycombe has been playing baseball for five years and said he was excited to return to the tournament.

He said the tournament was good experience to play professional baseball internationally.

“I’m really excited to go back and play against people from all over the world,” he said.

“My dream would be to play for the San Francisco Giants.”

In 2016, 10 champions from across the United States will be joined at the tournament by eight international teams representing Australia, Canada, Republic of Korea, the Dominican Republic, Japan, Mexico, Puerto Rico and New Zealand.

Tyson from Maida Vale said the tournament was the best experience.

He said his dream was to play for the Seattle Mariners.

“I love baseball because I get to play it with my friends,” he said.

“I went last year and it was great. I can’t wait to go again.”

The Under-13s Cal Ripken World Series runs from July 29-August 6.
