TWO champions of the WA basketball fraternity are giving back to the grassroots development of the sport by coaching high school teams.

Former Australian Paralympic Men’s Basketball team coach Ben Ettridge led his team to gold in Beijing and now he puts students from Swan View Senior High School through their paces on the court.

Meanwhile former professional basketball player and Perth Wildcats coach Alan Black is now head coach at Darling Range Sports College.

The two coaches went head to head in the final game of the season when Swan View SHS took on Darling Range Sports College at the School Sports WA Senior Basketball competition at Cyril Jackson on May 2.

Ettridge said he was proud of his team, who defeated Darling Range 42 to 36.

“I am really proud of our guys who played hard,” he said.

“It’s always fun to go up against Alan, he was my first coach at Willetton SHS and we have coached against each other in the State League lots of times.

“Now it’s great to be giving back at a grassroots level.”
