DARLING Range Sports College student Jorge Cairns has been selected to play AFL for the State this year.

Cairns was among local students from public and private schools to stand out in sports trials organised by School Sport WA (SSWA).

SSWA coordinates a range of sporting competitions for students at local, regional and interstate level and helps select talent to represent WA in 42 different teams.

The selected students compete in national school championships and WA hosts about four of the events each year.

Other local boys to make the AFL 15s team include Jordan Cooper of Governor Stirling Senior High, Regan Hill, of Mazenod College, Bailey O’Driscoll of Northam Senior High and Janeva Alec of La Salle College.

The AFL 15s girls team will include Charlie Beazley of Swan View Senior High, Molly Healy of Swan Christian College, Emma Nanut of Darling Range Sports College and Tara Stribley of La Salle College.

Both teams will join the Adelaide tour of the School Sport Australia Championships later this month.
