Total cost for the work was $140,000, with the Department of Sport and Recreation contributing $38,000 to the project and Shire of York $15,000.

Most of the rest was provided through some hard work by members of the growing club.

York Hockey Club president David Ashworth said the club had raised cash by conducting cake stalls, hay carting and sheep sheering, and did a huge amount of work at the pitch.

‘We did all the planning, contractors came to do the site works, then we put in the drainage and grass’ he said.
