Eastern Hills SHS phys ed teacher named AFL’s top first year school ambassador

JAKE Davis has made a difference in his first year as a physical education teacher at Eastern Hills Senior High School.

He was recently named outstanding first year AFL school ambassador in the AFL School Ambassador Awards and was recognised for:

n Setting up the first lower school boys football team.

n His work with 120 boys on behaviour contracts focusing on improving grades and attendance in the Swan Districts program helped run by Swans’ Dan Curtis.

n Work on the term 3 Swan program for girls, involving 60 players in a carnival.

“The school has been helpful with everything, including letting students out of classes to get involved and helping with the payments to make it nearly cost free so all students can be a part of it,” he said.

“I also coach the under-12s at Swan Districts and used my relationship with Swans Hills Rangers and Eastern Hills to build these programs, hoping to make it something special in the future.”

Davis said next year the school would have lower and upper schoolboy teams and an AFL subject in class.
