Football: Kalamunda Cougars claims two rousing victories over Whitfords

Brad WoodgateHills Avon Valley Gazette

The D2 reserves kicked things off with a 65-point thumping of Whitfords, which saw Kalamunda leapfrog them into second spot on the ladder and secure a finals berth with one round remaining.

Simon Bycroft showed his class around the stoppages, with Matt van Herk switching into the ruck and dominating around the ground, and best on Kyle Ajduk providing plenty of run off half back.

There was plenty of niggle late in the D2 league team’s come-from-behind victory, with Kalamunda getting up by four points after Tom Martin slotted the winning goal two minutes before full time. Matt Benson copped it all day but kicked an important goal late, with Ben Bowness doing as he pleased to lead the way for Kalamunda.
