KALAMUNDA Tennis Club can now upgrade its facility’s 40-year-old fencing after receiving a $10,000 grant.

Former international Alicia Molik presented the club with the ANZ community grant last month before playing a round with its junior members.

Molik learnt to play tennis at Seaside Tennis Club in Adelaide and said because of her connection to it through junior development, she still played at the club when she was in the area.

“Junior development is everything; for me it was my identity and provided a real pathway for me,” she said.

“I think if you can get kids in young and have them enjoy the sport and competition, they will always want to be around the club and part of the club.”

Molik said she was proud to present the grant because she knew that club improvements often helped increase memberships and grew interest in the community, which affected a club’s success.
