FOUR members of the Hills District Calisthenics Club in Forrestfield have been selected to represent WA in the 2018 National Calisthenics Championships

Cerise Ireland (11), Amy Fagan (13), Sydney Loveridge (1`2) and Anakah deJong (12) will travel to Canberra in July as part of a 20-strong squad for the junior championships.

Mother Jodie Ireland said training was rigorous ahead of the competition.

“The girls have all been doing calisthenics for an average of six years,” she said.

“Calisthenics is a uniquely Australian sport which requires discipline of mind and body, team work, a competitive spirit and a sense of responsibility.

“It includes a combination of gymnastics, ballet, folk dance, jazz ballet, apparatus, figure marching, mime and singing.”

The 2018 ACF National Championships will be held at the Canberra Theatre from July 11 to 14.
