It was the first win in the event since its opening in 1915.

Pickering Brook PS scored 993 points to win convincingly from Caversham PS (806 points), Herne Hill PS (763 points) and Orange Grove PS (706 points).

The school dominated the individual champion awards, with Sasa Vanek (Senior Champion Girl), Geordie Cole-Radice (Intermediate Champion Girl), Hayden Della Franca (Intermediate Champion Boy) and Stephanie Della Franca (Junior Champion Girl) all producing outstanding performances. The success of the school is a testimony to the strong support provided by staff and parents, and a focus on improved fitness and skills development.

The school conducts an Active After School Sports Program for pre-primary to Year 7 students throughout the year and the number of students participating in the program has grown.

Pickering Brook PS is also a leader in academic achievements, with NAPLAN results consistently exceeding the All Australian Schools mean scores.

The school’s Year 6 and Year 7 students figure prominently in placements in Gifted and Talented Secondary School programs.

Pickering Brook PS is in its second year as an Independent Public School and student enrolments have risen in the past two years to 150, with a further increase to 162 students expected to attend next year.

The school will have an open day on Friday, November 15.
