WA javelin star and inaugural Fremantle footy player Kim Mickle hopes to recover from serious knee and shoulder injuries in time for the Commonwealth Games in 2018.

The 32-year-old dislocated her shoulder at the 2016 Rio Olympics before rupturing her anterior cruciate ligament in round 2 of the AFLW competition in February.

Mickle said her shoulder injury would take more time to recover than her knee.

“I had the hybrid, double-bundle surgery, so it has got a couple of bits from the hamstring and prosthetic in there; it is nice and solid,” she said.

“The plan is to get back into javelin as soon as possible.”

She hopes to start competing in January and give herself nine months of build-up to the 2018 Games.
