Keeping on the court

The Glen Forrest resident, who has been nominated for the HBF Junior sports hero award, has hardly left the netball and basketball courts since taking up the sports.

Madi (12), as she is called by her friends and family, was picked by a basketball association talent scout at aged nine and asked to try out for a WA basketball competition.

Her talent secured her a position on a team in an older age group

Madi has since spent her time playing on a team of players her own age and another in which her team-mates were two years older.

She has won a slew of awards and trophies, including fairest and best and most valuable player, and has won three grand finals in an under-16s competition, coming away with most valuable player award in each.

Next year, Madi will begin a scholarship in an outdoor education specialist program, which will see her through high school.

Never one to stay away from the court for too long, she also referees basketball and is an assistant coach of an under-10 boys’ basketball team.
