Justin BianchiniHills Avon Valley Gazette

METRO Football League (MFL) celebrated a good weekend of football to start the season yesterday.

Brighton defeated last year’s premiers Queens Park 14.7 (91) to 12.12 (84) while in the reserves Queens Park were too good with several league players dropping back to get an easy win 18.15 (123) to 3.7 (25).

2016 runners-up Warwick Greenwood started brilliantly, winning well against last year’s division 2 premiers Midland 15.15 (105) to 4.12 (36).

Matt Greenhouse kicked six goals and has started where he left off last year as a match winner in the forward line.

New club Safety Bay left amateurs to come to MFL and looked good, kicking 25.15 (165) to Koongamia 13.9 (87) at Koongamia.

In division 2, Innaloo defeated Bayswater 19.14 (128) to 5.4 (34) in a twilight game at Bayswater.

Innaloo was undermanned and need to get more players but have some good quality recruits such as the Dawson twins who played at West Coast amateurs last year.

Dwellingup played the other twilight game, beating Baldivis 11.14 (80) to 11.11 (77).
