New Chidlow cycling race to offer new element to 2018 Element Road Series

Lynn GriersonHills Avon Valley Gazette

ROUND three of the 2018 Element Road Series will head to the new location of Chidlow for the first of three cycle races in June.

The challenging event will see riders tackle rolling hills on loops of the route through to the heart of the country town.

About 200 riders will hit the starting line in two of the events at Pickering Brook and similar numbers are expected in the Chidlow race, which will replace the popular Pickering Brook circuit.

The cream of the crop of WA riders will be on the road with the likes of national road series winner Michael Freiberg expected to ride strongly as well as Olympian Scott Sunderland.

Event supporter Midland Cycle Club will have a strong assembly of riders participating in the local races.

The Element Road Series brings together WA’s biggest cycling events with riders competing for overall grade championships.

A combination of old ‘Classic’ events like the Collie – Donnybrook, Tom Lowry and the Cyclassic will mix in with the Chidlow series to offer an event WA has not seen before.
