Tennis triumph

The tennis champion won his place on the State team after competing in a series of trials in Bunbury this month.

Lawrence is one of eight team members who will compete in the January event at the Royal South Yarra Lawn Tennis Club n Melbourne.

The Cup gives children 13 and under from across regional Australia the opportunity to participate in competitive tennis at the highest level.

‘The Foundation Cup campaign is all about ensuring a better future for Australians, particularly young Australians and generations to come,’ campaign CEO Ian Harrison said. ‘We are proud to support the children of regional Australia by sponsoring the Cup.’

There will also be a Fed Cup Foundation award of $1000 for the best male and female players at the tournament to assist in their development.’

Tennis West community tennis manager Brooke Koenig said the trials were a huge success, with a high level of competition and sportsmanship from the 120 participants.

Fed Cup Foundation president Judy Dalton said rural Australia has produced some of the biggest names in tennis.
