A SERPENTINE turf farm will provide more than 17,000sq m of world-class turf for the Perth Stadium playing surface.
HG Sports Turf was appointed by the State Government last week to prepare the stadium pitch and grow and install the turf.
Premier Colin Barnett said the playing surface for the stadium was an important element of the project.
“It not only helps players to perform at their best but it also provides fans with a great viewing experience too,” he said.
The turf will be a combination of natural grass interwoven with artificial turf and rolled onto the pitch. Sports Minister Mia Davies said turf was not only known to be a world-class playing surface, but it would also be grown locally.
“The grass is currently sprouting on two hectares at a Serpentine turf farm and once harvested, it will be delivered to the stadium site in rolls,” she said.
The grass is expected to be laid in the middle of next year.
