City of Joondalup warns Winton Road businesses about signs

Tyler BrownJoondalup Times

A GROWING number of signs are being unlawfully placed on verges in and around Winton Road in Joondalup.

The trend has prompted the City of Joondalup to run an education program to encourage the safe and appropriate placement of advertising signs within the Joondalup Business Park.

Letters will be hand delivered to businesses from Monday, outlining requirements for signs on public land to be approved and authorised by the City.

Patrols will start in the week after the letter deliveries and officers will talk to business owners and issue written cautions for those who continue to use illegal signage.

Following the education and caution period, signs will be impounded and a $125 fine issued.

The City’s Local Government and Public Property Local Law (2014) states that placing unauthorised advertising signage on public lands is not permitted.

Businesses that ignore the local law risk a fine and a maximum penalty of $5000 if determined by a court.
