Plumb crazy

Mark DonaldsonJoondalup Times

Hajir Mobin, who trades as Danny's Plumbing and Gas Services, was fined $5000 and ordered to pay $710 costs to Perth Magistrates Court after pleading guilty to working as a plumber without authorisation in Shenton Park and Claremont.

Mobin completed blockage repair work involving excavation, the replacement of a sewer inspection shaft and drainage work at a Shenton Park property.

The owners of the property then employed him to complete water supply work at their Claremont home in January, 2014.

It was not the first time Mobin had been convicted of licensing offences. In 2009 he was fined $24,000 for unlicensed gas fitting. He was also fined $10,800 for falsely advertising he was a licensed plumber and using several licence numbers that did not belong to him.

Building Commissioner Peter Gow said consumers using Mobin risked putting their safety at risk.

"It is for this reason that all plumbing work carried out in Western Australia must be done by a person who holds the appropriate licence under the general direction and control of a licensed plumbing contractor," he said.
