ONE of Australia’s most cherished cooks, food educators and authors is coming to the northern suburbs.
Stephanie Alexander will be at the Currambine Bar and Bistro from 6pm on Monday, October 8, for a special Meet the Chef edition of Dymocks Joondalup’s Books at Bars series.
The event, held in conjunction with the City of Joondalup, will celebrate the release of her latest book The Cook’s Apprentice filled with tips, techniques and recipes.
The book is described as the essential teaching cookbook for anyone just starting out in the kitchen, including children, teens, adults leaving home for the first time or anyone learning to cook.
It has an emphasis on techniques – the ‘hows’ and ‘whys’ of cooking – and is packed with advice to ensure new foodies are relaxed and confident in the kitchen.
This includes utensils and how to use them, how to handle chilli, using a mortar and pestle, how to whisk eggs into soft peaks, why it’s important to rest meat, how to test if a cake is properly cooked and removing stones from olives.
It also explains measurements, weights and volume and even how to pronounce tricky ingredients.
Alexander will give an author talk and answer questions while guests can sample food tastings from her new book and receive recipe cards.
Tickets are $7, including nibbles. Copies of Alexander’s books, including The Cook’s Apprentice, will be available to buy and have signed.
