EDGEWATER resident Jarrod Buttery is exploring 21st century singles and social graces as part of Blak Yak Theatre’s latest offering this month.

Written by Perth playwright Martin Lindsay and directed by Melissa Merchant, One Night One Day is a modern farce about the chances people take and the regrets they have over chances they miss.

Greg and Rachel are both in their late 20s, feeling pressure from family and friends to find “the one” and instead find each other.

After a heavy night of drinking, they wake up in bed together with little memory of what happened the night before.

With the help of Bob (played by Buttery) and Jane, they try to piece together the details from the previous night.

One Night One Day is a hilarious script… and it’s new, original and very funny,” Buttery said.

“A small cast of four ensures the play is tight and fast-moving.”

Involved in theatre for more than 25 years, Buttery was one of the founding members of Blak Yak Theatre.

“It’s great to be in a Blak Yak play for a change instead of organising things behind the scenes,” he said.

Merchant said she had recently spent a lot of time researching theatre from the past and she was keen to rejoin the 21st century.

“When I heard Martin Lindsay was adapting his award-winning one-act play One Night Stand Off into a full-length play, I knew it would be something I’d want to direct,” she said.
