Hillarys resident documents family upsizing in A Swan Family’s Amazing Journey

A SWAN family’s journey between parks in Hillarys has inspired a book.

Resident Bronwyn Gaby said five cygnets hatched at Mawson Park last year, but their parents soon realised that park was too small and busy to safely raise their young.

Gaby said the black swans set off with their babies, walking to Broadbeach Park which was about 2km away.

“I felt like a detective,” she said.

“I spoke to many people at Broadbeach Park and they all knew part of the story, but not all of it.

“Once I knew what had happened I just wanted to let everyone know.”

Gaby has put the story into a children’s picture book, called A Swan Family’s Amazing Journey.

She will be selling $28 copies at Broadbeach Park, Hillarys, near the playground from 8.30am on Friday, December 21, Saturday, December 22 and Sunday, December 23.
