Student designer to send costumes down catwalk

OCEAN Reef designer Martina Dobson-Brown will see her creations take the runway at Perth Fashion Festival.

The ECU student will feature her designs in the costume category of the Future Runway show on September 14 as part of the closing night at Fashion Paramount.

Dobson-Brown said she drew inspiration from the national costumes of her home countries: Czech Republic and Slovakia.

She has researched these costumes over the past few years,and built up her understanding of their history, meaning to society both then and now, the construction involved and materials used.

She has then translated this knowledge into her own costume design, capturing the essence of the traditional costumes and applying it to the 21st century.

Dobson-Brown said she liked to work with natural materials and aspires to create her own label that develops unique designs for the contemporary woman.

This will be her first time showcasing in the Perth Fashion Festival.
