Her paintings examine the landscape and community of the coastal shack settlement north of Perth.

Detchon spent her childhood holidaying at her family’s shack at Wedge Island and has always wanted to depict the beauty and strong sense of community in her artwork.

The dramatic colour palette, sense of space and shifting light at Wedge has been inspirational for her new works in which she has swapped from drawing with charcoal to brightly coloured painting.

“Wedge Island is such a unique place, inspiring in its beauty and open space,” Detchon said.
