ARTISTS and writers teamed up for an exhibition at the Joondalup Art Gallery on Central Walk this month.
Closing tomorrow, ‘The Conversation’ exhibition featured work from Joondalup Community Arts Association artists and Peter Cowan Writers Centre writers.
The writers provided short stories, poems or lyrics which the artists then interpreted as visual pieces.
Curator Val Shaw said the concept started with her personal interest in the relationship between word and image.
“Having invested in the creation of visual diaries for some years, this interest was strengthened and stimulated by my return to university to study fine arts as a mature student,” she said.
“Artworks and written material were all produced on A3 paper, and were installed in a formal side by side, open book configuration. The unframed arrangement lent itself to an open book, page by page format, yet the size restriction and regular install gave the exhibition a more formal appearance.
“I hope that this exhibition will initiate a conversation on the unique relationship between word and image and on the possibilities on a community level of combining different areas of the arts.”
The exhibition is open from 10am to 2pm today and tomorrow, and from 6pm to 9pm tomorrow at the Twilight Markets.
