Access, inclusion promoted during Disability Awareness Week in Joondalup

THERE will be an inclusive arts competition and a sausage sizzle in Joondalup to celebrate Disability Awareness Week, which runs until December 5.

The Disability Services Commission has provided community organisations with grants of $250 or $500 for events and activities held next week to raise awareness of the importance of access and inclusion.

The art show was developed from a project by the City of Joondalup, in partnership with Inclusion WA, which held an awareness-raising campaign at local schools, highlighting what it meant to live in an inclusive community.

Students then developed art works to demonstrate what social inclusion meant to them and submitted them in an art competition.

The winning entries will be displayed at 90 Boas Avenue from midday to 2pm on Thursday.

VIP (Valued Independent People) and Senses Australia will hold a community sausage sizzle in Joondalup, at Neil Hawkins Park, for joggers, cyclists and other park users from 10am to 2pm on December 4.
