The Polytechnic West student won a gold medal at this year’s regional WorldSkills competition for bricklaying.

“It’s pretty surreal to think that I am now recognised as one of the best bricklayers in WA,” he said.

“The training provided by Polytechnic West really helped me in terms of precision and marking and that, coupled with my lecturers’ knowledge, ensured I was ready to compete amongst the best.”

Frank Zanatta, Mr Yeeles’ manager at Celebration Homes, said his achievement was well deserved.

“Conrad is one of the most hard-working employees we have here,” he said.

“He was extremely committed to his training and soaked up everything we taught him like a sponge.”

Each WorldSkills competition is a series of skill-specific tests designed by industry experts. Winners in each skills category have the opportunity to represent WA in the national competition in Victoria next year.
