Sport and Recreation Minister Mia Davies was on site yesterday to announce that $4.3 million will be allocated in the 2016-17 State Budget to finalise the works.

This brings the State Government’s total spend on the facility to $20 million, as well as $4 million from the City of Joondalup.

The first stage of the redevelopment, which has been completed, included additional courts for the Joondalup Netball Association and an expansion of the western oval with a second rugby field for Joondalup Brothers Rugby Union club.

The next stage includes new football facilities for the West Perth Football Club, including new function areas and player amenities, football development services, and administration and member facilities.

A new four-court basketball stadium will also be constructed for the Joondalup Wolves State Basketball League club, including an administration area and player amenities.

Treasurer Mike Nahan said the extra $4.3 million was required to upgrade existing infrastructure because of developing the new basketball and football facilities.

“Additional power supplies, gas, water and sewerage upgrades and additional rainwater drainage need to be completed,” he said.

Emco Building was recently awarded the contract for the new basketball and football facilities.
