Australia Day 2018: Hillarys and Ocean Reef residents on honours list

Hillarys resident Nonie Browner and Ocean Reef resident Ross Whiteman made the Australia Day Honours List as recipients of the Medal of the Order of Australia.

Nonie Browner For service to the community through social welfare Mrs Browner was the founding president of the WA Police Widows’ Guild from 1972-78. She remains a liaison of the service, which offers assistance to the families of police officers killed in duty. The Hillarys resident is also a founding member of the WA Police Family Advisory Council, which formed in 1976. Today, she is an active committee member and life member of the council. Her commitments extend to the sports world, having been a board member of Basketball WA’s Junior Basketball Association from 1970 to 1990. She is an ongoing supporter of the Wheelchair Basketball Association.

Ross Whiteman For services to people with motor neurone disease Mr Whiteman was president of the Motor Neurone Disease Assocation of WA for 13 years from 2003-2016. The Ocean Reef resident has been a member and fundraiser for the association since 2001. He was chief executive of Ray White Real Estate WA from 1994 to 2002.
