Bashing: Man charged

Mark DonaldsonJoondalup Times

Police last month charged a 40-year-old man with grievous bodily harm.

Senior Sergeant Brad Burnett accused the alleged attacker of repeatedly hitting the 35-year-old man, who had a prosthetic leg, with a garden picket at a home about 9pm on November 20.

He said the victim’s prosthesis disconnected during the incident causing him to fall to the ground.

The accused man allegedly continued the attack with a metal object, while the victim was on the ground, after the garden picket snapped.

Sgt Burnett said the injured man did not go to hospital that night, but was admitted with an infected head wound four days later, and remained in hospital for more than a week.

“He had to be put in an induced coma to stop the infection getting to his brain,” he said.
