LAKE Joondalup Baptist College student Hayden Gowrea was one of 20 winners in a competition to illustrate a book for Therapy Focus.

The disability service provider received more than 4000 artworks from students across WA for the art competition to illustrate the 10th title in the Help a Child Grow storybook series, Ben Tries to Fly.

The winning 20 illustrations have been published in the book by social worker Eddie Drury, who said the story encouraged young people to celebrate every individual’s talents and abilities.

Ben Tries to Fly is about two best friends, Ben and Tim,” he said.

“When Ben gets carried away trying to fly, Tim reminds him of what’s really important.

“Having the book illustrated by so many outstanding young artists has been a privilege.

“It’s great to see the key message on inclusion being so eagerly embraced.”

Therapy Focus board chair Fiona Payne awarded each student with their framed original artwork, a copy of Ben Tries to Fly and a prize pack at Perth Town Hall during the August book launch.
