The Wanneroo Central Volunteer Bushfire Brigade and the support brigade will hold a barbecue fund-raiser on August 29.

Treasurer Shane Sheely said they would sell hot dogs for $2.50 and drinks for $1.50 outside Bunnings from 7am to 4pm.

"Trucks and volunteers will be there from 9am to 2pm for children to look at and have photos taken," he said.

"Members of the public between these times can also find out about bushfire information or how to become a member.

"The funds raised will go towards the purchase of a thermal imaging camera, which is valued between $5000 and $8000, for our brigades.

"This camera will enable firefighters to make sure that the fire is out completely."

Mr Sheely said funds raised at last year's barbecue bought a defibrillator for the brigade's light tanker, and five of their vehicles now had defibrillators.

"Last December one of the defibrillators was put on standby as a firefighter waited for an ambulance due to heart problems," he said. "He was later taken to hospital where a defibrillator was used to put his heart back into normal rhythm.

"That firefighter is still alive."
