TWO Perth artists will auction their work to help raise funds for the Leukaemia Foundation at the upcoming Bright Tales exhibition.

Inspired by one of his twin daughters, Mullaloo artist Peter Ryan donated a painting to support the charity’s annual Light the Night fundraiser, held on October 11.

He and fellow artist Donald Waters will auction paintings at their colourful, storytelling exhibition, Bright Tales, at AppleX Art in Applecross on October 25.

“In 2013 my two-year-old daughter Skye was diagnosed with leukaemia,” Mr Ryan said.

“During this time I left my job and focused on my art so I could be home with Skye, and throughout the years and time in the hospital we drew, wrote stories and became a team making bright beautiful things in a dark time.

“The Leukaemia Foundation supported us – and all families – directly getting through this battle.

“(Skye) is now happy and healthy and one of my biggest sources of inspiration.

“Light the Night is the perfect event to support other families who have a ‘Skye’ of their own to stay bright.

“During her treatment, when she was five, she received a box light which she sat above her bed head, and on the screen she wrote ‘dreams can travel tonight’ – I always loved this message.

“Together we designed a painting using her title, full of personal elements and a story to bring light to the night.”
