MEMBERS of the local community can nominate for one of six vacancies on the City of Joondalup’s Strategic Community Reference Group.

Successful applicants will have an opportunity to engage with the council and play a role in the decision-making processes for strategic initiatives and matters of significant community interest.

Consisting of community representatives and elected members, the group meets up to three times a year, with experts also invited to provide advice on specific topics.

Last year, the group reviewed the City’s community engagement and communication practices and looked at options for a program to support and develop community leaders.

Two-year terms are available in each of the City’s six wards.

Mayor Albert Jacob said the group was a great way for members of the community to make a positive impact on their City.

“Members have an opportunity to engage with the council and become actively involved in important local government issues that have a direct impact on them, their family and friends and community,” he said.

“I encourage anyone interested in influencing the future direction of our City to consider nominating for a position.”

Nomination forms are available at www.joondalup.wa.gov.au, from the City’s customer service centres or by calling 9400 4219.

Nominations close on February 9.
