Celebrating heart and soul

Tyler BrownJoondalup Times

Stories from the Heart features 50 former Sacred Heart College students and long-term staff members.

“Each of these ‘stories’ has had their own adventure since leaving the college,” Mr Bothe said. “Some have gone on to fame and recognition, others have quietly built business success or served their community, and some are only just starting their amazing journey.

“Each has told of their favourite teacher who inspired them, the choices they have made and their passion today.

“Together they have managed to bring together the story of a college built at what was called ‘the end of civilisation’ 50 years ago.”

After a year of photos and interviews, compiled mostly by 50th anniversary student captain Harmon McAullay (Year 12), the book was launched at Voyage Kitchen on January 27 with the unveiling of the first two stories printed on posters for the bus stop outside the Sorrento cafe.

These featured model and The Face Australia winner Olivia Donaldson, who graduated in 2011, and West Coast Eagles premiership player Brett Heady, who graduated in 1987.

Every fortnight for the rest of the year, two new stories will be displayed at the bus stop.

Other 50th anniversary celebrations include a dinner dance on May 21, past staff function on June 10, boarders high tea on September 17, and jubilee mass and Back to the Heart Day on September 18.
