THE City of Joondalup is seeking feedback on a three-storey apartment building proposed for Iluka.

The proposal is for 24 apartments on the corner of Burns Beach Road and Mykonos View and is separate to the proposed Iluka Plaza on O’Mara Boulevard between Burns Beach Road and Calis Avenue, which is also out for public comment, and the approved Odyssey Residences at Beaumaris Beach, also on the same site.

The apartments would consist of three one-bedroom units, 14 two-bedroom and seven three-bedrooms, with 41 residential at-grade car parking bays and four visitor bays on Mykonos View.

Developer and Helm Living co-owner Brad Kelly described Iluka as an “aspirational suburb” where most residents didn’t want to leave.

He said the apartments, designed for owner/occupiers, would be suited for those wanting to downsize but remain in Iluka and for those wanting to get into the suburb, such as professional couples without kids.

He said the building had been designed to complement the area, with extensive balcony screening on Mykonos View and the provision of mature trees, and it proposed to drop below the natural ground level to minimise the impact on views for neighbouring residents.

Mr Kelly the apartments would be priced from $420,000 for a one-bedroom unit, to $580,000 for a two-bedroom and $730,000 for a three-bedroom unit.

Though Mr Kelly said it was a compliant application, discretions are being sought in the areas of building and boundary wall heights, setbacks, open space, front fencing, landscaping, visitor and bicycle parking shortfalls, retaining and fill, overlooking, lack of housing diversity and size and location of storerooms.

Submissions can be made at the City’s website, via info@joondalup.wa.gov.au or posted to PO Box 21, Joondalup WA 6919 before February 13.

The application will then be presented to the Metro North-West Joint Development Assessment Panel for consideration.
