City of Joondalup sends new waste law out for public comment

THE City of Joondalup has drafted a waste local law, which will be advertised for public comment.

A November council document said the law would be a key tool to improve the City’s management and enforcement of waste-related activities while supporting the goals of its Waste Management Plan 2016-2021.

“It is an integral component of the City’s |future approach to waste management and in particular, provides a mechanism to reinforce educational campaigns aimed at changing behaviour and increasing participation in waste generation and disposal,” it said.

“The provisions relating to verge waste collections also support the council’s recently adopted position regarding bulk waste collection services.

“It is considered the draft Waste Local Law 2016 represents a contemporary view of waste management services and will be a timely replacement of the existing provisions of the outdated Health Local Law 1999.”
