City of Joondalup to install coastal Beach Emergency Numbers (BEN) signs

Tyler BrownJoondalup Times

THE City of Joondalup will install 65 signs at access points along its coastline this summer to help improve beach emergency response times.

The Beach Emergency Numbers (BEN) signs are uniquely coded and registered with emergency services. They include clear location data so a caller can quote the beach sign number to an emergency operator if urgent help is required.

Sign locations will include some of the City’s most popular coastal foreshore areas, including Burns Beach, Iluka, Ocean Reef, Mullaloo, Kallaroo, Hillarys, Sorrento and Marmion.

The signs also include ‘beach closed’ text on the reverse side for instances of shark sightings and dangerous rips.

The City received grant funding from the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development to install the signs.
