The City applied last August to the Department of Sport and Recreation’s Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund for $173,104 to help fund the $519,313 project.

The City was told in March it would receive $136,000. Councillors at last Tuesday’s meeting agreed to continue with the project and proceed to tender, with the City to fund the $37,104 shortfall.

The City has $600,000 listed for the project in the five-year capital works program for 2016-17.

Cr Philippa Taylor said this was still in the City’s budget and the “electrics at the site have already been modified when we made the recent improvements to the clubrooms”.

The project will ensure the playing field at Admiral Park will be floodlit to Australian standards for amateur-level training and club competitions of all football codes.

The City completed an $842,000 refurbishment of the Admiral Park Community Sporting Facility in 2014, providing a new home for the Joondalup Giants Rugby League Club, Ocean Ridge Junior Cricket Club and Whitford and Districts Senior Cricket Club.
