City of Joondalup’s Food for Fines campaign offers a way to pay off library dues and help those in need

Tyler BrownJoondalup Times

CLEAN out the pantry, pay off your library fines and help those in need is the idea behind the City of Joondalup’s Food for Fines campaign.

Each time a library member donates an item of non-perishable boxed, bottled or canned food during October, the City will waive $1 in library fines.

Donations can be made at the Duncraig, Whitford, Joondalup or Woodvale libraries and will be distributed to people experiencing hardship through True North Church – Community Care, Grandparents Rearing Grandchildren WA and the Spiers Centre.

The City last took part in the Food for Fines campaign in 2015, with more than 100 boxes of food going to the participating charities and more than $1500 in library fines waived.

The campaign is also open to members of the community who are not library members.

Items accepted for donation include peanut butter or spreads, canned chicken or tuna, canned vegetables or fruit, cereals, snacks or health bars, soups or sauces, pasta or rice and noodle cups.

Open, damaged packages or repackaged food, expired food, perishables or food requiring refrigeration and pet food will not be accepted.
