City removes veteran fungal-infected tree

Lucy JarvisJoondalup Times

City of Joondalup chief executive Garry Hunt said a City officer received a call about a fallen branch on Saturday, July 25 and taped off the area around the tree for the safety of park users.

"The fallen limb was not removed at this time given its size and because of the need for an independent arborist to examine and inspect both the tree and the fallen branch to ascertain what caused the fall," he said.

"The subsequent arborist report indicated that the cause of the branch fall was likely a fungal infection caused by sulphur crested cockatoos eating away the tree's cambium layer (underneath the bark).
