POPULAR Christmas icon, Santa Ken, is being remembered as a kind and caring gentleman.

Grandaughter Mili Lindsay posted a tribute to him in the Santa Ken Fan Page group on Facebook yesterday, describing Ken Ekins as “the only man who would properly fill the boots of Santa”.

“He was the best Santa that the world could ever ask for,” she said.

“Not only was he perfect for the role as Santa, he was a kind and caring man.

“I will never forget the day my grandad passed nor will I forget all the amazing, cheeky and fun things we did together.”

The beloved Santa took time off his appearances at Lakeside Joondalup Shopping City last year to be with family following treatment for metastasised melanoma.

His career had spanned 29 years, with families from all over Perth embarking on annual trips to the centre to have their photo taken with him.

His death has prompted an outpouring of condolences to his family on social media, as well as people sharing memories and photos taken with the jolly man in red.
