FRIENDS and rockers Phill Russo and Roger Blow have raised funds for charity together since 2010.
Roger launched the Corporate Battle of the Bands competition in 2009 with Phill, of Iluka, joining a year later.
This year, they support two not-for-profit causes, including Cystic Fibrosis WA, which holds a special place in Phill’s heart.
His younger brother Grant died of the genetic disorder 12 years ago, aged 27.
“Grant wasn’t bullied because he could stand on his own two feet but he tried to hide the fact that he had it a fair bit and me being his older brother, I developed a strong bond with him,” Phill said.
“He wanted to live life to the fullest, and he did, right or wrong in some instances.
“He had this certain charm, everyone just loved Grant.
“With his passing, mum and I took it the hardest and it’s something I’ve never gotten over and I don’t think mum has either.”
The event, including music, raffles and entertainment, also supports WA suicide prevention group, Youth Focus.
The line-up includes bands from St John Ambulance, Cove Legal, Limestone Coast Brewing, Mandurah Catholic College and Channel 9.
