He said his wife Yvonne had been diagnosed with motor neurone disease just over 12 months ago and she had been wheelchair-bound almost since then.
MND Australia has lent the couple a motorised wheelchair, but the kerbs at their home in The Loop were too steep for Mrs Emberson to get up and down.
Mr Emberson said he called the City during the Christmas period to see if there was anything it could do.
He said within a couple of months, contractors were sent to their home to smooth out the kerb.
They also smoothed out the kerb on both sides of Wedgewood Park so Mrs Emberson can access the park and the shops and also an area at the top of the street so she can “visit her friend for coffee”.
“It was very good what was done,” Mr Emberson said.
“The City understood the problem and they addressed it without any hesitation.”
He said the couple wanted to thank the City for its quick action and alert others in a similar situation to the options available.
