THE Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) say they are treating a fire near Hillarys on Sunday evening as suspicious.

The fire was reported just after 5pm on Sunday evening and began burning near the intersection of Northside Drive and Whitfords Avenue.

Nine fire trucks, two water bombers and two helitanks were called in to support the professional and volunteer fire-fighters on the ground.

At one stage, the fire started burning towards Whitfords Avenue, but fire-fighters were able to bring it under control.

The fire was officially contained just before 7pm last night. A DFES spokesman this morning confirmed they were treating the fire as suspicious.
