TESS Woods’ writing career has only just begun with the release of her debut novel Love at First Flight.
The Duncraig physiotherapist, who can now call herself an author, said she had not written anything since leaving high school.
She finished the original draft seven years ago and her work was released as an ebook last year.
Now, she is celebrating the release of Love at First Flight in print.
“That’s the dream right there,” the 43-year-old said.
“To be able to hold my book in my hands, see it when I walk past a book shop, sign copies for my friends and families – that really is the dream.”
She said the inspiration to write her first book came from nowhere.
“I’d just been reading the Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer, which is so different to my usual choice of reading material, and I was fascinated by the premise that Edward was Bella’s soul mate but he was also the one with the power to destroy her,” she said.
“That thought must have played on my mind because I then conjured up the image of a suburban wife and mother who falls for a man she believes is her soul mate but it turns out that he’s the one to destroy her.
“Once the idea came to me, I felt compelled to write the story.”
She has now also finished the sequel titled Beautiful Messy Love.
Dymocks Joondalup is holding an author event at Whitford Library from 6pm to 7.30pm next Wednesday where Woods will share her journey to becoming a published author followed by a question and answer session and book signing.
Cost is $4.
