Duncraig man denies Boxing Day murder charge

A DUNCRAIG man has pleaded not guilty to murdering another man at a northern suburbs home on Boxing Day last year.

Jason John Burt, 39, appeared in the Stirling Gardens Magistrates Court on Wednesday via video link from Albany prison where he denied killing 68-year-old Hans Besselaar following an altercation at a Duncraig home.

Police were called to the Davallia Road home about 10pm on December 26 after they received reports of a fight between two men, who they alleged were known to each other but not related.

Mr Besselaar, a Dutch national, was taken to Royal Perth Hospital after the incident but died soon after.

Mr Burt is expected to appear in court again on June 17 and will stand trial in the Supreme Court.

The post-mortem report is yet to be finalised.

It has previously been reported the men were housemates.
