A CLEARING permit for early works required to facilitate development of the Ocean Reef Marina is out for public comment.

The application from Development WA proposes to clear 6.35ha of bushland.

The early works include a new Hodges Drive extension and Boat Harbour Quays entry road, diversion of the coastal shared use path and the club and boat ramp access, construction of signage and a site compound for an office and facilities.

If approved, it is proposed the clearing would take place between March and July.

The proposed land for clearing was located within a Bush Forever site but following an amendment to the Metropolitan Region Scheme (MRS) in August, most of the development area was removed from the Bush Forever site.

Now the proposed clearing area contains 0.13ha of Bush Forever land, which can be rehabilitated following construction.

As part of the MRS amendment, an offset site in Carabooda was identified, which takes into account the 6.35ha currently proposed for clearing.

Submissions can be made to the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation until February 21.
