Edgewater teacher recognised for two decades teaching Japanese

The Mater Dei College staff member won the Japanese Language Teachers’ Association’s WA Japanese Teacher of the Year award at the association’s annual conference in May.

Mrs Jacobs said she was inspired to learn Japanese as a teenager after visiting Tokyo.

“I later lived in Japan for three years teaching English and this inspired me to come back to Perth to become a teacher,” Mrs Jacobs said.

“The students of Mater Dei College inspire me to keep teaching to the best of my ability.

“Seeing the enthusiasm for learning Japanese and interest in the culture, reminds me of how fascinating I found it.”
