LOCAL artists are encouraged to start preparing for this year’s Community Art Exhibition, which has a prize pool of more than $8000.

Entries for the City of Joondalup event will open from February 28 to 5pm on Sunday, April 29, with the exhibit being held in The Great Space at Lakeside Joondalup Shopping City between June 10 and 22.

The exhibition is open to City of Joondalup residents or members of a not-for-profit visual art association operating within the City.

Prizes include Most Outstanding Artwork ($1500), best painting, works on paper, three-dimensional works, photomedia and textiles ($1000 each), Arts in Focus and Celebrating Joondalup ($500 each) and the Student Award ($250 voucher).

Artworks will be judged by an external panel of experienced visual art practitioners and arts industry professionals.

There will also be a $500 Popular Choice Award for the artwork that receives the most public votes during the exhibition.

As part of the exhibition, one artist may be commissioned to produce an artwork for the Joondalup Library billboard project and another artist will be invited to hold a solo exhibition at the Joondalup Art Gallery as part of the Arts In Focus program.
