ENDORSEMENT of a management plan for the coastal foreshore for Hillarys and Kallaroo has been delayed.

Joondalup councillors at last week’s meeting were recommended to endorse the draft Hillarys – Kallaroo Coastal Foreshore Reserve Management Plan 2016-2021.

The plan covers the foreshore from the northern seawall of Hillarys Marina to Merrifield Place in Mullaloo and aims to guide future environmental planning of the area, address threats and issues and protect the conservation and recreation values.

At the meeting, Cr Mike Norman moved an alternative motion to refer the report back to the chief executive to “enable updated vegetation condition mapping” to be included in the plan.

It was passed 9-3 with Mayor Troy Pickard and Crs Kerry Hollywood and Tom McLean voting against.

The Hillarys – Kallaroo plan is the third localised plan the City has produced following the endorsement of the overarching Coastal Foreshore Management Plan 2014-2024 in October 2014.

The overarching plan is a management guide for the natural areas in the City’s coastal foreshore reserves.

The other two localised plans already in place are for Marmion and Sorrento.

It is proposed the City will also produce plans for Mullaloo Beach and Ocean Reef – Iluka.
